General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark 2

The General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark, operational from 1967 to 1998, was a supersonic, medium-range interdictor and tactical attack aircraft. It was also used as a strategic nuclear bomber, reconnaissance, and electronic warfare aircraft. Known for its variable-sweep wings, the F-111 was one of the most controversial aircraft ever flown, yet it achieved one of the safest operational records of any aircraft in USAF history. It was commonly known as the 'Aardvark', due to its long nose resembling the African mammal. The F-111 pioneered several technologies for production military aircraft, including afterburning turbofan engines, and automated terrain-following radar for low-level, high-speed flight.
