North American FJ-1 Fury Hat

The FJ-1 Fury, a pioneering jet fighter of the late 1940s, marked North American Aviation's first foray into jet-powered aviation. Entering service with the United States Navy in 1947, the Fury was a trailblazer in carrier-based jet operations. Although its operational career was relatively short, the FJ-1 laid the groundwork for future naval jet fighters, including its more famous successors in the Fury family. With a single-seat configuration, it was powered by an Allison J35 turbojet engine, showcasing the shift from propeller-driven aircraft to jet-powered fighters. The FJ-1's design featured straight wings, a characteristic of early jet fighters before the adoption of swept wings for higher speeds. It participated in notable events, including making the first operational carrier landing of a jet fighter on a U.S. aircraft carrier.
